The Healthy Schools Committee is off to a great start this school year!  Our continued goal is to promote positive health and safety habits for students.  We will continue to have monthly food tastes tests throughout the year.

Last year our students sampled a variety of fruits and vegetables to add to their repertoire of healthy foods.  Papaya, Spanish Olives, Pickled Beets and Tofu were just a few of the foods we tasted.

Do you have any ideas of fruits and snacks that we might try this year?  If so, give the suggestion to Mrs. Green, our Assistant Principal.

Kale

In February our students participated in a taste test with a kale and apple salad provided by Sodexo. They really enjoyed the salad!

This is a very nutrient dense food.   It is low in calories yet very high in vitamins, minerals and other phytonutrients.  When you consume this healthy food, you do not need to worry about your weight loss diet as you take in abundant, good for you nutrients.

One of the benefits of kale is that this green is readily available, nearly all over the world.  Even through it sounds like an amazing super food, it is still easy to find in the market or easy to grow.  In addition, its affordable.

This is a versatile food.  It can be eaten raw in a salad or in a green smoothie.  Or it can be cooked and eaten as a dish on its own or added to soups and other dishes.  If boiling, use the least amount of water possible for the shortest time
