Reading
We've been working on main idea, asking and answering questions to help support comprehending text.
Vocabulary Using Context, synonyms, antonyms and part of speech
Support answers with text evidence, using a strategy called RACE
Keep reading and take AR tests.

We do use DOL (Daily Oral Language) which supports teaching the rules involved in wriiting.
Writing is assessed in spelling tests almost every Friday (except on weird weeks)
Writing is assessed in all subjects with explanations and short responses.
Goal is to write an 8 sentence paragraph independently. We will continue practicing writing on a topic with a paragraph, topic sentence, details, examples, explanations and conclusion sentence.  
The Writing Process will be practiced:  branstorming, planning, drafting, editing (revising and proofreading) and then publishing.  These are with longer writing pieces like persuasive writing.
Typing will be practiced and reinforced during all assignments.

Spelling
Spelling packets given out Monday, tests usually on Fridays.  
Remember to practice writing sentences with the words, not just spelling the word correctly.
Look in planners for exact homework assignments.
We will be alternating weeks with review lists and some content vocabulary.

We are continuing multiplication facts 0-9.  We are still working on the timed tests and loved the yummy reward at our ice cream party before winter break.  We are looking forward to more ice cream fun in May after we have aced all of our multiplication facts.  Students need to practice consistently to master those multiplication facts.
Area and the area formula of length x width have been part of our math time in January.  We will continue this and then work into geometry as well.
We are going into perimeter and then starting fractions.
Remember RDW when doing word problems. 
Read and understand the problem
Draw something that shows what is going on in the problem
Write an equation and answer to the question.
Don't forget Freckle!

Local government and economics will be our focus 2nd quarter and 3rd quarter.  We will be using a community resource JA (Junior Achievement) to introduce, teach and practice our economics standards.
Government consists of responsibilities and rights and what that looks like at the local level.

This includes keen observation, microscopes and exploring the world of germs and other microorganisms using the Scientific Process.
 How can I support at home?​Keep signing the planner!  Look there for notes from teacher and keep up on assignments.
